Celebrating Earth Day
By Donna Stark
Earth Day is this month and it couldn't be more fitting since many people are stuck at home with "the outdoors" as their only form of entertainment. The goal of celebrating Earth Day is to encourage everyone to nurture their appreciation for nature and all it has to offer. And, to maybe give back a little bit too! So, on that note, let's take a look at some Earth Day activities that you can safely do with those you love most.
Nature Walks
There is no better way to celebrate what Mother Nature has to offer than to go on a nature walk. Taking a walk instantly gets you to slow down and really puts you in a wonderful position to appreciate all of the beauty around you. On top of that, the benefits that walking has to both your physical and mental health are out of this world! So grab your shoes and lace them up!
Yoga
We all know that yoga is great for the body and helpful with reducing stress and anxiety but you can double the benefits by doing it outside in your backyard! Yoga is a great way to add some freshness to your fitness routine while also enjoying all of the sight, sounds, and smells of nature. Just imagine how relaxed you will feel once you are done!
Frisbee
Frisbee is a perfect option for outdoor exercise right now because it is a non-contact sport, and like walking, you can pretty much do it anywhere. It is easy to learn, loads of fun, and can be quite competitive if you can find a Frisbee golf course to play on.
Trash Collection
What better way to show Mother Nature how much you appreciate her than to use your time outdoors picking up trash? It's very important that you do so safely, though! Use tongs instead of your hands to pick up the trash, wear gloves, and be sure to wash your hands and body thoroughly as soon as you are done.
Planting
You can also show your appreciation of nature by planting a tree or flowers around your home. Or maybe you can get started on that garden you have always been considering? Whatever you decide, you will be sure to feel great about the results that come from all of your hard work and effort!
Celebrating Earth Day
This year, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day may encourage you and your loved ones to continue the appreciation throughout the rest of the year too!
