Tips for Travelers: Spinal Health While on the Go
With the holidays quickly approaching, a lot of people may find themselves traveling frequently. While traveling can be a lot of fun, it can also be hard on the body, especially the back. Of course, you don’t want back pain to keep you from going places or having a good time. In order to keep your spine in great shape without giving up your travels, check out these tips for optimal back and neck health.
Buy Support
Whether you are spending hours in a car, on a plane, or on a bus, the seats offer little in the way of support. Check out your local market and buy a simple support system for your problem areas. A little more support behind the neck or lower back can give you a huge boost in overall spinal health. These devices are generally inexpensive, but do a wealth of good.
Take Your Own Pillows
If you are traveling over night, then you will be sleeping in a foreign bed. A bed that doesn’t offer optimal comfort a support can really cause pain. The least you can do is to take your own pillows. Your pillows, since they are already broken in, perfectly support your head and neck in order to keep you out of pain. This one little step can provide comfort when everything else is new or strange.
Exercise or Stretch
Keeping the body mobile is a great way to keep the spine healthy as well. When you are doing an extensive amount of traveling, getting enough exercise can be tough. If you can, make time for a session or two. If all else fails, a quick stretching routine in the morning and night, and at all of your restroom breaks will give your body enough movement to help with stiffness and pain.
Chiropractic Care
Getting chiropractic care on a regular basis is an excellent way to keep the spine in optimal health. Chiropractors may be able to keep the vertebrae of the spine properly aligned, which can then reduce tension, pressure, and pain. Even if you can’t get to a clinic while on your trip, a visit just before and just after may help work out any misalignments and keep your back healthy.
