Keep the Flu Away With These Tips

By Virginia Laird

With spring in the air, many begin to believe that flu season is a thing of the past. However, this is not the case. Research suggests that flu season is still in full swing, and many states are experiencing a high number of flu cases. While there is little you can do to prevent the flu, there are things you can do to deter these germs from taking over your life. Health and wellness experts have offered a few tips to help keep your family well. Some of these include:

  • Wash your hands often
  • Stay home when you feel ill
  • Get plenty of sleep

Wash Your Hands Often

Health and wellness experts suggest that washing your hands often throughout flu season is a great way to prevent the flu from taking over your home. Research indicates that, on a daily basis, we come in contact with a billions of germs. While there are many germs which will not cause sickness, there are some which can bring about terrible illness, including the flu. Start today washing your hands routinely to help you and your family avoid illness.

Stay Home When You Are Ill

Health and wellness experts suggest that staying home when you feel ill is one of the best things you can do. Not only will it keep you from spreading your germs but it can also prevent you from contracting another illness. When the immune system is working to fight one illness, the body becomes more vulnerable to other health issues. Rather than allowing illness to take over your body, help yourself out by staying home and resting. This can help the immune system to build strength and fight off infection.

Get Plenty of Sleep

There is research to suggest that getting plenty of sleep can provide a boost to the immune system as well as keep you well. Health and wellness experts admit that when the body has a lack of sleep it becomes more susceptible to falling ill. Rather than having this be you, experts suggest that you make sleep a priority, especially during flu season. It is suggested that the average adult get at least six hours of sleep each night. Children require much more than this. Start today making sure you and everyone in your home gets plenty of sleep so that you can stay well throughout flu season.

There is no reason to continue prolonging your battle against the flu. Make keeping the flu away from you and your family a priority and taking this advice.
