Downtown Tempe is Getting a Remodel
The downtown of Tempe is getting a new look with a few new additions in the coming months. Two new developments are in the works on Mill Avenue: AMC movie complex and a six-story apartment complex. Just recently coming out of a recession, Tempe is looking to make their town look more appealing and showing off that they can bounce back from rough times.
“This addition to downtown Tempe will help us provide new family friendly entertainment options to mill,” mentioned the Mayor Mark Mitchell about the new developments. The new movie complex will be a huge development for the downtown area. Currently Tempe has a one-screen movie theater, Valley Art which was built in 1940. But this new complex will offer more options for local Tempe movie goers. The expected open date for the new theater doesn’t have set date, but is expected to be open by late fall or early winter.
Another great booster, is the development of a new apartment complex. With a great new movie complex on the horizon, this will attract more people downtown, thus the need for a new and showy apartment complex.
The developers that will be in charge of creating this six-story apartment complex have developed in cities like San Francisco, and guarantee to give Tempe a high quality building.
Where will this apartment complex be built? The developers (Houston-based Hanover Co.) will be building the new complex over an existing parking lot. Construction is to start this year and plans are projected to take around 21 months to finish.
With an already established bar and restaurant scene, a new apartment complex and AMC theater, it will put the finish touches on downtown Tempe. These two new additions will bring more families downtown, because of the family friendly options that will be available.
