Losing Weight in the New Year: Try These Tips

By Virginia Laird

It seems that weight loss is generally a dream many people have without the follow-through to be successful. Fortunately, health and wellness experts, along with dietitians have offered a great deal of advice to make your weight loss goals a success in 2018. While one goal should always be to add some exercise to your life, several include what you choose to eat, including:

  • Count calories
  • Lean and green is the best diet
  • Stay hydrated to help with weight loss

Count Calories

Calorie counting a a great tool to use when trying to lose weight. Many people do not realize exactly how many they consume on a daily basis. However, counting calories is not all fun and games. There will be times you begin to count and realize there may not be room in your diet for that cookie or slice of cake. Many dietitians advise that the average adult should consume no more than 2,000 calories per day, although the vast majority of people need much less and have a goal of somewhere closer to 1,200.

Lean and Green is the Best Diet

Another tip for weight loss is making healthy food choices. Again, this may not always be the easiest change to make, but it can be the most rewarding. Along with weight loss, making healthier food choices can help improve your overall health and wellness. Here, dietitians recommend following a diet that is lean and green. This means a lot of leafy salads, grilled (rather than fried) foods, and learning to enjoy some green veggies you may otherwise turn your nose up to.

Stay Hydrated to Help With Weight Loss

Staying hydrated can also assist in weight loss. When the body is hydrated it more easily flushes out toxins. The body has more energy, and hydration allows the functions of the body to work unimpaired. Another great benefit of drinking enough water is that it can work as a zero calorie filler. Drinking one glass of water before eating a meal can help you feel more full and eat a little less. It is recommended that you should consume at least half of your body weight in ounces of water daily to reach your best hydration.

Weight loss can be a difficult battle. However, you are now armed with the tips necessary to be successful along your journey. Good luck and may 2018 be your best year yet.
