Healthy Living Starts at Home
By Virginia Laird
Although it would be nice if there were a quick fix to living a healthy life, the reality is that healthy living is a choice, one that begins at home. Research indicates, if you teach your children to make healthy choices while they are young, they are more likely to continue most of them as they become adults. For this reason health and wellness experts have offered several tips to help make your home a healthy one, including:
- Choose a well-balanced diet
- Go to bed when you are tired
- Exercise on a regular basis
Choose a Well-Balanced Diet
Choosing to follow a well-balanced diet is one thing you can control. Research suggests that those who are healthiest stick closely to a diet full of veggies, fruits, and lean protein. Health and wellness experts admit that a healthy diet also includes an unlimited supply of water. If your home is anything like mine, there are times when planning dinners can get in a rut of relying on pasta and other items which should be consumed in limited amounts. It is during these times that sharing recipes with friends and family can help you get back on track and choosing healthier meals for everyone in your home.
Go To Bed When You are Tired
Health and wellness experts admit that staying healthy relies a lot on getting plenty of sleep. For those, like me, who have a home full of children, often it is easier to get the housework done after sending these children to bed. However, experts admit that getting enough sleep should take precedence over housework in the evening. It is recommended that the average adult should get at least six hours of sleep each day. If you are not meeting this minimum amount, start today making plans to go to bed early enough to get a good night of rest.
Exercise on a Regular Basis
Healthy habits are sure ways to promote good health. For this reason, experts suggest that making it a habit to exercise is vital. Not only should you work out, but you should teach your children to enjoy exercise. This does not mean you should take them to the gym and start them on any certain program. However, teaching them to enjoy a bike ride or a walk through the neighborhood can help encourage exercise. Start right away making exercise a regular part of your family's lifestyle.
