You Can Add Snacks to Your Meals with Berries

Some foods are for the standard meals only.  The meats, potatoes, and white bread were a staple at one time.  Most people thought there was a definite separation between meal time and snack time.  It really does not have to be that way. When people make good choices, they may sometimes be able to have both.  There are some good foods that can serve multiple purposes. No one minds when they can get a lot of flavor from something that is healthy.  Berries can fit nicely into that category.

They Come in Plenty of Varieties

Berries are a food that comes in a large amount of colors, shapes, and flavors.  Among them are many different things that can offer better health. Most are filled with nutrients.  Strawberries have more than 150 percent of the RDA of Vitamin C per serving. Adding them to your breakfast could boost your supply without even worrying about additional supplements.  The fact that they are generally low in calories is another plus.

They Contain Antioxidants

The scientific community has discovered that antioxidants are a big deal.  There is a considerable amount of oxidation that occurs in the body, causing a variety of problems.  Antioxidants are effective in fighting several kinds of communicable diseases. Taking in adequate amounts is believed to maintain good health.  They are also known to be effective in reducing or slowing some cancers. They also fight inflammation. This can help with many of the aches and pains people have.  It also means that it may lower blood pressure. High blood pressure is known to damage the heart, so keeping it down is a great way to help protect it.

They Can Be Great for Kids

Kids recognize a good thing when they see it.  Berries are sweet and easy to eat. My grandchildren love to eat strawberries.  They manage to find all kinds of ways to enjoy them. Sometimes they eat them right out of the fridge just as they are.  Sometimes they find something to dip them in, such as chocolate or powdered sugar or some other thing they dream up. Either way, they will eat strawberries until they are red.  Many kids do the same with blueberries and many other berries. Try adding them to your shopping list, and watch the reaction.
