Water Is Not the Only Healthy Drink

By Tom Herrin

It can be a challenge to try to make everything we do work for our health.  We may exercise, get the right amount of rest, and eat well.  The other thing we may do is try to find the healthiest drink.  When in doubt, we can always drink water, and we often do.  At times, any of us may get a little tired of water and want something with a bit more flavor.  Many times, this can make us cave a little and start drinking things that we know are not the best for us.  Since I try to avoid too many things that are not so good for me, I try to look for some good alternatives.

Have You Tried Pomegranate?

Even though a lot of us probably ate some pomegranate when we were younger, we may have never thought about it as a drink.  As with so many other things, it has gained some popularity in recent years.  It has a good taste and seems to have several beneficial qualities.  One study found that it may improve memory.  Another indicated that it may help lower cholesterol and manage blood pressure.  It also has a good bit of fiber that may help with digestion.

If Life Hands You a Lemon, Make Lemon Water

Even though you may not have had it as a choice, you have likely had lemon water served to you at a restaurant with a meal.  Lemon water is refreshing and healthy.  It contains Vitamin C along with a few other things.  It is considered to be an immune booster.  Many people use it as a natural diuretic.  It may be just enough to balance out your drinks and add a little variety.

Add Other Flavors to Water

There is really no limit to what may be added to water in the way of flavors.  Many restaurants offer a big variety of flavors.  For those who don't want fruits, there is chocolate and vanilla.  There are all kinds of fruit flavors such as blackberry, cherry, grape, and many others.  I often choose lime with strawberry.  To me, it tastes like a really light limeade.  My wife often drinks water with pineapple.  Some like banana flavor.  The sky really is the limit.  Try getting a little creative, and see what you can come up with.  You may be surprised.
