3 Effective Ways to Deal With Back Pain

By Paul Rothbart

Back pain is a common problem that is experienced by many people. There are several causes and even normal daily activities can contribute. It can be debilitating, making the easiest of tasks seem impossible. Of course, it also hurts, sometimes badly. No one wants to be in pain for any length of time. Back pain may seem like something you just have to learn to deal with but the truth is, there are ways to manage it.

Avoid the Causes

It seems obvious, but many people with back pain continue to do the things that cause it. Poor posture is a major cause and yet you see it everywhere. Stand and sit up straight. Curving your spine can cause damage to discs that is painful and can cause serious problems. If you work seated at a desk all day, in addition to practicing good posture, take frequent breaks. Get up and take a short walk. Sitting for long periods can compress the spine.

Another common cause of back pain is improper lifting. Always use your legs and not your back to lift a heavy object. Be certain that you are holding it securely and that it is balanced. Never twist at the waist while carrying something heavy. Ask for help for extremely heavy lifts. It doesn't pay to play the hero.

Stretch and Exercise

Long stretches of sitting or standing can compress discs. Gentle back stretches can help counter this compression. Stretching all of the muscles frequently can help the body stay loose, move more easily, and reduce back pain. Exercise is also important. Keeping the muscles in the lower back and abdominals strong and limber will make it easier for them to do the difficult job of supporting the upper body. It can make you less prone to injury and less inclined to feel pain.

See a Chiropractor

When it comes to managing back pain, chiropractic care should be seriously considered. Chiropractors are trained and skilled at finding subluxations and disc issues that cause pain. They know how to make adjustments to correct the problems. This often results in a healthier back and far less pain. Chiropractors can also adjust the joints. Joints that function properly are not likely to affect the back adversely.

There are multitudes who experience frequent back pain. Taking the steps to care for the back can help reduce it. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. You may find that along with self-care, seeing a chiropractor makes back pain a thing of the past.
