3 Fun Ways to Get in Some Walking With Kids

By Genevieve Cunningham

Kids are fun. They're loud and sticky and always giggling. And they're always needing attention. Of course, they can't help but need care most hours of the day, and we love to help them. But if you have little kids, then you know how difficult it can be to get things done. And one of the first things to fall by the wayside? Exercise! If you have little ones but still want to get movement into your everyday life, take a look at these three fun ways to get in some walking and keep the kids happy, too.

The Park

Kids love the park. They have somewhere to run and play. They have slides and swings. And most of the time, they even have other kids to engage with. And for the parents? There is almost always some kind of track or trail to get in some walking. Take your kids with you while you walk and then let them play. Or find a park with a trail around the play area. This is an easy and affordable way to get in some walking and get your kids some play time, too.

The Zoo

Kids love the zoo. The animals are exotic, something that they don't see every day. They learn without even realizing it, and they spend all day walking. And the parents do, too! This is a great way to have a family day while everyone gets in some steps. You'll all burn calories and get in some great cardio exercise. And you'll also have a lot of fun and make memories that may last a lifetime.

A Hike

A lot of people think of hiking as an adults only activity, but it certainly doesn't have to be. As long as your kids are old enough, get everyone some supportive shoes, find a nature trail, and get moving. You may be surprised at how much your kids enjoy this activity. And you may even help them develop a love for an activity that they can enjoy their entire lives. As everyone gets older, you can choose more challenging trails. Hiking can be such a great way to get in shape and enjoy the outdoors, so give it a try with your little ones today.

You might have to get creative, but it's possible to get exercise -- especially walking -- even with little ones along for the ride. Use these tips to help you get started, and enjoy the time you get with your family as well as the boost in health that may follow you for a lifetime.
