Is Your Home Keeping You Unhealthy?
By Genevieve Cunningham
Your home is such a special place. It's where we can't wait to go at the end of a long day. It's where we spend days off, lounging and eating and relaxing. Home is comfortable. It's familiar. It's a part of who we are. But is it possible that your home is keeping you unhealthy? Unfortunately, this is a real possibility! If you would like to get the most out of your home and make it a place of health and happiness, take a look at these ways to improve your home and health too.
Clutter Burdens the Mind
The mind doesn't like clutter. While you might think only of mental clutter -- like bills and appointments and work -- it doesn't like physical clutter either. When you live in constant clutter, it makes you feel more stressed. And more stress equals poor health! If your home is cluttered, it's time to do something about it. Throw stuff out! Bring some organizational skills into your home and make it a place of order. You may be surprised at how much better you feel when your home and mind are clutter-free.
Dirt and Grime Keep You Sick
If your home is messy, it's much more likely to have dirt, grime, and germs hidden all over the place. And for obvious reasons, this makes you physically sick. If you've noticed an increase in sinus problems or headaches or similar issues, it may be because your home is keeping you ill. Clean it regularly to remove allergens and germs, and some of that illness may disappear too.
Home Should Be a Refuge
Home should be a place where you can relax. Where you can curl up in the corner with a book and feel safe and comfortable. And if your home is in disarray, it simply won't feel this way. Keeping a neat and orderly home is good for your mental well-being. And when you keep your mental health in check, your physical health is more likely to follow. Your home may not help you get rid of strep throat or the flu or anything of the sort, but if overall health is what you're after, your home is a great place to begin.
Having a home that promotes comfort and health is so important. And it's probably easier than you think! Use these tips to make your home a place of health and long-term wellness. Home is where the heart is, and if you focus on maintaining the right atmosphere, it will be where the health for your family is as well.
