Stay Hydrated With Six Simple Steps

How much water do you drink on a daily basis? For a lot of people, the answer to this question is alarming. Chances are good that you drink far less than you need. In fact, some may realize that they never pick up a glass of water all day long! Instead, we opt for sodas, coffee, tea, and other flavored drinks. Unfortunately, the lack of water in our diets significantly affects our health. We must keep the body hydrated if we truly hope for optimal health. So how do we change our ways? If you need a push in the right direction, take a look at these six easy steps to stay hydrated and feeling your best. 


Drink First Thing in the Morning


If you need a dose of caffeine in the morning, go for it. But once you've had your pick-me-up, reach for a glass of water. In the long run, you may find that drinking water in the morning brings even more energy into your daily life.


Drink Before You Eat


If you drink one glass of water before every meal, you'll get at least three glasses of water every day. Is that enough? No, it's not. But if you're drinking little to zero water right now, it will be a huge step in the right direction. 


Drink After You Eat


Another easy way to add some water is to reach for another glass once your meal is over. This helps you feel full, hydrates your body, and may also aid in digestion. A post-dinner glass of water is a win-win for your health. 


Carry a Water Bottle


If you're not used to drinking water throughout the day, make it easier by carrying a refillable water bottle with you everywhere you go. Anytime you feel thirsty, hungry, or bored, reach for a sip. Having water constantly at the ready can help to keep it at the forefront of your mind. 


Set Goals


Setting goals is a good thing. It helps us keep our eye on the prize. If we want to drink more water, we should set goals. You can do this simply by the number of glasses you drink by a certain time each day, or you can opt for a water bottle that helps keep track for you. Either way, setting goals can help you stay up on water intake every day.


Eat the Right Foods


Foods contain water as well, and if we want to stay hydrated, we can choose the right kinds of food to aid hydration. Many fruits and vegetables - cucumber, iceberg lettuce, watermelon, and more - can help us increase our daily water consumption. Choose a healthy diet of these kinds of foods, and you'll be one step closer to healthy hydration.
