3 Health Concerns You Haven't Given Enough Attention
By Genevieve Cunningham
When it comes to our health, most of us focus on two big areas: diet and exercise. We put tons of thought into which diet is right for us. Paleo, keto, vegetarian. We put tons of thought into which exercise program might work for us. Running, kettlebells, yoga. And while it’s definitely a good thing to put time and energy into these areas of our health, we often forget or neglect other areas that still need our attention. If you think that you might be guilty of putting certain areas of your health on hold, take a look at these three aspects of your health to give some attention now.
Your Teeth
Far too many people ignore the health of their teeth, but this is generally a bad idea. For starters, we only get one permanent set of teeth. If we don’t take care of them, there’s no replacement. Secondly, poor health in the mouth can affect your health elsewhere in the body. Gum disease is linked to heart disease, which is a serious condition that affects your quality of life and longevity. If you haven’t been to the dentist lately, make an appointment and get your teeth taken care of.
Your Skin
The skin is one of the first things that others see. If the skin is unhealthy, it shows. Unfortunately, it often takes time for the skin to show damage, which means we can do extensive harm to our skin without even knowing it. The problem is that it’s very hard to undo skin damage. Besides the worst case scenario of skin cancer, we can also suffer from age spots and premature wrinkles, which then lowers our personal self-esteem. If you can, make an appointment with the dermatologist to have your skin checked and to make skin care a normal part of your health routine.
Your Eyes
Some people have their eyes checked religiously. If you wear contacts or glasses, it’s part of the process. But if you have seemingly good eyesight, it’s possible that you never have your eyes checked at all. While this isn’t the worst thing in the world, the eyes can be a huge indicator to other problems in the body. For example, the eye doctor may be able to tell you whether or not you’re dehydrated or whether you should be checked for anemia. Eye care isn’t a huge hassle either. It generally only takes a visit or two per year! Make an appointment to have your eyes checked so that you can keep your eyes healthy and serving you long into the future.
It’s so important to focus on every aspect of our health. Diet and exercise matter, that’s for sure. But these areas of health matter, too! Make a plan of action to check and manage these aspects of your well-being. Doing so might help you prevent problems in the future and feel like your best self now.
