You Are Never Too Old for Milk

By Tom Herrin

When you were a child, you didn't think twice about drinking milk.  It was the primary source of nutrition, and it contained everything needed for health.  As we grew older, this continued.  The school lunch program was established around the end of WWII.  It was intended to make certain that all children were  provided with meals that met all of their nutritional needs.  Milk is the one thing that must be served with every meal.  It is believed to be necessary for proper growth and development for all children.  Even though most of us got a good start by drinking plenty of milk, many of us may have felt that we outgrew milk and shifted our menu to include lots of other beverages.  This may have left milk out of the picture.  For the most part, adults can still receive quite a few health benefits from including milk in their diets.

Milk May Protect the Heart

At one time, many people recommended that it is better to drink milk that is fat-free.  This was based on the high instances of problems related to high cholesterol and other related issues.  In recent times, some have promoted drinking milk with some fat because it appears that it can hep to raise the levels of good cholesterol.  In addition to this, milk contains potassium which can help to increase the flexibility of blood vessels and keep blood pressure at healthier levels.

Milk May Be Intolerable for Some

As good as it may be for some people, milk may make others sick.  They may have a negative reaction every time they drink it.  Some can have very few milk products.  One of the primary causes of this is that they cannot digest the lactose, or milk sugar.  Some other individuals have problems with one of the proteins in milk, the A1 protein.  For these people, drinking milk may be a very unpleasant experience.

There May Be Some Options

Milk packs lots of protein and, since it has a high water content, may be good for those who are trying to manage weight.  Some good products are on the market that may help those with problems.  One of them is lactose-free milk.  It seems to be available at all markets.  Another good product has no A1 protein.  It is labeled as A2 milk.  If you are one who has some sensitivity to milk, you may want to try one of these.
