Shower Yourself With Love!
By Donna Stark
Long gone are the days when we could truly disconnect from people. When we could simply take the phone off the hook or enjoy a weekend away without the pressures of society. Nowadays, though, it seems as if we are busier than ever with the responsibilities that come with work, school, and family. And it's these obligations and demands for attention that steal the time we need for ourselves. If you are feeling a bit burned out or stressed and aren't sure what to do, keep reading. Your relief could just be a simple solution away.
Treat Yourself to 30 Minutes
If you were watching a sitcom or waiting for your meal at a restaurant, 30 minutes might not sound like a long time at all, but for some reason, it does when it comes to self-care. There are a lot of things you can do in 30 minutes that will help improve your overall well-being. Here are some great suggestions.
- Go on a brisk walk
- Enjoy a cup of hot tea
- Write in your journal
- Read some chapters in your favorite book
- Take a hot bath
- Sit barefoot in the grass
- Practice deep-breathing exercises or meditation
Engage in a Hobby
Another way you can disconnect while treating yourself to some special "me time" is to engage in a hobby. Whether you decide to pull out some paints and a canvas, create a garden, or fish to your heart's content, giving yourself the time to truly focus on what you love doing is the ultimate form of self-love. Don't have a hobby? See what your friends and family members are doing. Who knows? You may be interested in joining them!
Although it requires little to no effort on your part, spending time with Mother Nature could impact your life in a very big way. Time spent outdoors has been shown to elevate moods, reduce stress, encourage physical activity, and sharpen creativity. If you are having a tense moment or a bad day in general, head outdoors and get some fresh air! You may be completely surprised by how effective the sun shining down on your face really is!
Effective Disconnection Can Be Achieved
The most effective way to give yourself a break and successfully disconnect from your busy life is to follow the tips above. Make sure you are marking them on your calendar, too, and don't allow anyone to steal that time from you. It's just too valuable to give away.
