3 Healthy Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

By Brandi Goodman

Earth Day gets celebrated each year as a way to promote environmental health. The world we live in can be detrimental in itself when there is trash splattered on the ground, harmful toxins being emitted, and plants being cut down to make way for man-made structures. Find healthy ways to celebrate Earth Day and show your appreciation for the world you live in -- and the health of yourself and everyone around you.

Start a Garden

Plants are necessary for our ecosystem, and yet so many get cut down each year to make way for other things. We need to put more plants in the ground so they can continue to act as food for other organisms, take in the carbon monoxide in the air, and provide safe oxygen for us all to breathe. Do your part on Earth Day by starting a garden. Having your own garden at your home can help promote a healthier environment while also aiding in your home's curb appeal.

Pick Up Trash at Your Local Park

Trash on the ground can be more harmful than you realize. It impacts the earth and the wildlife in it. You should always do your part by picking up the trash you use and never leaving it unattended at parks, campgrounds, festivals, or anywhere else. Help out on Earth Day by heading to a local park, playground, beach, or other recreational area and picking up trash. Removing it from the premises helps to keep the place looking clean and tidy for everyone's use and keeps it away from birds and other animals who may come into contact with it.

Walk or Bike to Work

Cars emit carbon dioxide and add even more toxins into our air. If you're close enough, do your part by walking or biking to work when you can. It saves a day of harmful emissions and boosts your fitness in the process. If more people spent their days walking or biking instead of driving, significantly fewer toxins would be put into the air each year.

Earth Day shouldn't be the only time you worry about the world around you. Do your part each and every day to ensure the environment remains healthy and safe for all. Just one small change in your daily habits can make a huge difference.
