Reinvent the Way You Camp With Health in Mind
By Brandi Goodman
Camping is a common summer pastime, but so many people use the activity as an excuse for eating unhealthy and sitting around not having to do much of anything. Reinvent the way you camp and keep health in mind for a truly worthwhile getaway that can bring a sense of pride.
Bring a Bed
You may have gotten away with sleeping on the ground when you were young, but chances are the habit won't end well for you as an adult. You really should bring some sort of bed to the campground so you can sleep peacefully. You don't want to wake in agony. An air mattress or cot are possible options.
Make Your Meals at Home
Don't settle for granola bars for breakfast and roasted hot dogs for dinner. You can make your meals at home and pack them up in the cooler to eat as leftovers while you camp. Enjoy them cold or heat them in a cast-iron skillet over a portable grill top over the fire. That way, you can have healthy options packed with protein and nutrients and not have to rely on easy offerings.
Stretch Often
Whether you're sitting around the campfire for hours or actually engaging in physical activities, you need to be stretching your body often. Stretching will keep your joints from getting stiff and sore and help you enjoy the camping trip better. Pick a campsite farther away from the restrooms and you'll get to stretch your legs out every time you have to make the trek there.
Find Time for Activities
Sitting around the campsite may seem relaxing and enjoyable, but it won't give your body the exercise it needs to thrive. You should really find time for activities while you're camping so you can make the most of your time away. Get up and take a walk around the campground to explore its offerings. Go for a swim. Take your kids to the playground and enjoy it with them.
Camping can be a fun and healthy endeavor. You just need to reinvent the way you camp and change up a few of your common camping habits. Opt for nutritious meals rather than take-along snacks, make sure you're engaging in plenty of physical activity, and don't forget the air mattress! A healthy camping experience is better for your overall well-being.
