Why You Should Stay Hydrated!
By Sara Butler
You know you should do it -- drink enough water all day every day to stay hydrated. But you still might not understand why on earth that’s so important. In an effort to convince you that yes, you really do need to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day, here are a few of the reasons it’s important to stay hydrated.
It Fuels Your Body
In the morning you probably reach for coffee or tea to get your day going and give you energy. It might surprise you to learn that you only need water to give you a little pep in your step. Water is fuel to your muscles, helping them to function optimally, especially if you’re active. If you suffer from muscle cramps, then there’s a good chance you’re not getting enough water.
It Helps Metabolism
If you’re struggling to achieve or maintain a healthy weight, then look no further than the magical powers of water to help! Water helps to keep your metabolism going each day, helping you push through your workout and your body using more calories all day long, even when at rest.
It Keeps Headaches Away
Sometimes a headache can be a sign of dehydration and dehydration can be made worse if you drink tea, coffee, or soda to help you stay energized all day long. You can overcome headaches caused by dehydration by drinking enough water each day.
It Helps Boost Immunity
Temperature fluctuations in each season can have an impact on the immune system, which is why certain times of the year people seem to get sick everywhere you look. Drinking enough water each day helps to keep your immune system kicking, helping the liver and kidneys function at their best, and helping your immune system keep you healthy and free from illness.
It’s Good for Bones
As you get older, your bones tend to get weaker. That’s why some older adults struggle with weakened bones as well as pain in the joints. To help make your bones you don’t need anything fancy -- water can help! Staying hydrated can help you to build stronger bones, with the help of essential vitamins and nutrients in your diet too.
Staying hydrated is an often overlooked but incredibly important aspect of your overall health and wellness. Make sure to drink up each day!
