How to Avoid Back Pain While Black Friday Shopping

By Brandi Swieter

Black Friday falls directly after Thanksgiving, giving shoppers the opportunity to find great deals that don’t pop up the rest of the year. When people are busy trying to score unique items for cheap, they often fail to remember their health and wellness during the process. Back pain can creep in easily if a few precautions aren’t taken. While Black Friday shopping, or doing any shopping for that matter, shoppers can avoid back pain by remembering a few key things.

Carry a Fanny Pack Rather Than a Purse

Women who tend to carry purses over their shoulder while shopping should rethink this practice. It adds extra weight that can add to the strain when carrying shopping bags around as well. Instead, use a fanny pack. It goes around the waist and only contains a few necessary items. With not much weight to it, the fanny pack is an ideal object to have around when scouring for deals at the store.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Too many people head out shopping in any shoes they desire. Some women even wear heels during the trip, causing discomfort after just a short time. It is best to wear comfortable shoes that are sturdy and efficient. They will limit pain and keep the body in the best shape possible for a long day of looking for deals.

Stretch Beforehand

Not many people think to stretch before they shop, but it is actually very beneficial for the body. Black Friday deals often start out in the early hours of the morning, meaning people are waking up and quickly heading to their favorite shops to get the best discounts. The body is often not yet flexible enough in the morning hours after just waking up, and will require some stretching and movement to get it going for the day. A few simple stretches quickly before heading out will go a long way in making sure all the shopping can get handled.

Back pain can set in easily when shopping, especially on Black Friday when it’s already bound to be a stressful situation. Anyone who already suffers from back pain should visit their chiropractor beforehand to ensure the body is able to handle the activity. Visit The Joint Chiropractor for an adjustment after shopping to make sure any subluxations get removed and the back is in proper shape to continue to handle all the holiday activities coming up in the near future.
