5 Healthy Foods That Start With 'A'
By Brandi Goodman
Plenty of fruits and veggies fill the list of what you should be eating. Rather than focusing on all of them, here we'll take a look at some of the best options starting with the letter "A." Apples, asparagus, apricots, artichokes, and avocado should all be part of your weekly menu to ensure you're receiving adequate vitamins and nutrients.
Apples
We all know the saying about apples helping you avoid doctors. People came up with the popular phrase because of the fruit's many advantages to health. With high doses of Vitamin C and antioxidants, apples are definitely one food you need in your daily diet. Eat them whole or cut them up and enjoy with peanut butter for a fiber-rich snack.
Asparagus
Asparagus isn't high on many individuals' shopping lists. There are plenty of ways to spruce up the bland vegetable, though. Plenty of people enjoy it cooked on the grill or baked with garlic and other herbs. Asparagus should be on your regular meal plan due to its high dose of Vitamin K and folate. It also provides some protein and other vitamins such as C and A.
Apricots
Apricots aren't as popular as apples, but they still pack a lot of potential. They're great for eye health, with lots of antioxidants and vitamins in the mix. The fruit is also ideal for reducing inflammation, strengthening blood vessels, and protecting the skin. The worthwhile amounts of Vitamins E and A are to thank for this.
Artichokes
Artichokes aren't appetizing for a lot of people, but you should do your best to get the veggie into your diet. They're on the superfood list because of the large number of antioxidants and vitamins. If you're looking to reduce your blood pressure, improve liver health, reduce your cholesterol, and get more potassium or fiber, then eat artichokes.
Avocado
Avocado has become increasingly popular over the years. What once was used to simply make guacamole is now becoming a sought-after commodity. Avocado toast is a particularly enticing combination for many people. The green fruit (yes, fruit) offers healthy fat that is beneficial to our energy levels.
Even if you don't particularly like all of these options, find ways to incorporate them into your meals so you can benefit from all of the worthwhile nutrients they provide. Finely dicing them up and putting them into a smoothie is a great choice.
