Fall Can Provide Opportunities for Better Lifestyle

By Tom Herrin

The changing of seasons can mean more than just a lot of leaves falling, though that is always a big part of it.  As summer has finally come to an end with its often intense heat, the fall may be seen as welcome relief.  The idea of cooler temperatures with those shorter days and nice long evenings is somehow appealing for many.  People may find that doing things that require any physical effort are much easier as it is so much more tolerable.  There is no need to worry so much about recovery from exhaustive heat and dehydration.

Get Out the Bicycle

Just about everyone has access to a bicycle somewhere.  People can take advantage of the cool days by going for a ride.  With all of the fall colors and scenery, it can be a great time for people to get their minds off other things and get a little low-impact exercise.  The good thing about riding a bike is that people set their own pace and still reap useful benefits.  It is easy to get hooked on riding and make it part of a regular program.

Take Part In A Harvest

Gathering fruit or some other crop can be another way of burning a few calories while accomplishing something at the same time.  In my part of the world, picking up pecans is a pretty big task.  Every time I try picking them up, I can easily get lost in the job.  Before I know it, I have spent nearly an hour collecting them.  The next day or so, the whole project starts again.  The same can be done with picking apples or some other fruit.  There is a considerable amount of bending and reaching, so it can be a decent workout.

Get Up A Game Outdoors

There have been plenty of football players from the area.  Just about anyone can get into a light game of touch football.  It doesn’t have to be intense or competitive to provide good exercise.  As a college student, I began playing it with some friends most afternoons.  Before long, I realized I had improved my conditioning with very little effort.  I decided to make a small change to my diet as well and lost 35 pounds in only a few months.  It was fun, and I had lasting results.  The same can happen to you.  With a few small changes, you can make great improvements in your lifestyle.
