Tip Me Over, But Avoid Pouring Me Out

By Tom Herrin

Most people operate based on circumstance or habit.  In other words, external factors may make decisions for them.  This may be fine in some situations, but it may not be the best in all of them.  Decisions about eating and drinking are better done with a purpose in mind rather than because they are simply hungry.  The old saying about never buying groceries when you are hungry -- because you will make some bad decisions based on that -- still holds true.  The same may be said about drinking.  Waiting until they are thirsty is not necessarily the best reason to drink.  While it is an indicator, a better practice is to drink at regular intervals throughout the day.  Water is a vital part of maintaining good health.

It May Play a Part in Preventing or Lessening Headaches

Lots of people deal with headaches on a regular basis.  Some of them are severely affected.  While it is not the case for all, some headaches may be caused by a lack of water.  Whether it is mild or severe dehydration, some people have headaches that are brought on by insufficient water.  Drinking more water for these individuals may be all they need to do.  It can be surprising just how much they are able to manage these headaches by drinking more water.

It May Help to Prevent Some Urinary Tract Problems

More and more people seem to suffer from issues with their urinary tract.  There is a good chance that many of these are directly related to a lack of having enough water.  Those who have had kidney stones may be the real losers.  These stones can be extremely painful and can render some almost totally unable to function.  Drinking much more water may be able to flush smaller stones from the system.  It may also help to keep the material that makes those stones move.  It is a must for those who have these problems.

It May Go Well With Weight Loss Efforts

Many of us have times in which we feel as if we are starving.  Some of this may be due to the fact that we are not drinking enough water.  While drinking water is not the only thing that helps, we should make a good effort to drink water as well as other beverages.  Drinking more water can help to make us feel fuller and be less hungry.  Some other kinds of drinks are not able to deliver the same results.  I try to drink as much water as I can on a regular basis.  It seems to make a difference.
