Can Veggies Really Supply Our Needs?

By Tom Herrin

When it is time to evaluate the efficiency of meals in a regular diet, there are plenty of things to look at.  Proteins, fats, and carbs are all pretty much the basic essentials.  Playing with the kinds and amounts of any of these can have a major impact on health.  Determining the foods to include in a diet should be a careful consideration.  What kind of results are desired should be a major factor in determining the direction to go with a diet. Some people may actually need a diet with more meat while others may need to stay away from meat as much as possible.  For those trying to stay away, leafy greens may be able to provide a good alternative.

They May Help With Digestion

Digestive issues are common.  It seems even more so as people consume more processed foods.  Leafy greens may help to add bulk to the food so that it can pass through the system more easily.  Some of the minerals may also help to regulate the digestive system so that it can function more efficiently.  Many of the vitamins can help to give an energy boost to those who have had their energy drained by digestive problems.

They May Help With Cholesterol Levels

With all of the fast foods that people eat, they often are subject to some pretty unhealthy ingredients.  This may be due to the quality of meat itself, the oils used for cooking, or a combination of both.  Leafy greens can supply lots of nutrients.  Some of them can help to remove materials from the bloodstream that could add to problems with circulation.  This may help to keep blood vessels clearer.

They May Assist With Weight Loss

Unless you are really unique, the chances are you have struggled with weight management at one time or another.  We may feel that we are doing well, then we suddenly find that our weight has fluctuated.  What had otherwise caused us no problem, now may appear to be something that we simply cannot maintain.  The high water content of leafy greens can help us to be hydrated while the nutrients can help to satisfy the hunger we may have due to lack of good nutrition.  I try to include them in my diet, especially when I am in an effort to begin a new phase of a weight loss program.  The other thing is that I enjoy having them with meals.  They help me to feel more energetic.  Maybe they will work for you.
