Solid Advice for Passing the Fitness Plateau
By Genevieve Cunningham
Getting stuck on the fitness plateau is inevitable and also very frustrating. Anyone who has been involved with fitness knows that a halt in progress at one point or another is going to happen. But when you get stuck on this plateau for too long, it can be incredibly discouraging. So how do you make it through the plateau and on to the other side for more success? If you're ready to get moving toward better fitness once again, take a look at these tips to help you shatter the plateau for good.
Recharge Your Batteries
Sometimes when you hit the plateau, all you really need is a break. It shouldn't be a long break, but it should be a deliberate break. Schedule yourself a week or so without exercise. And once your break is over, get right back into your routine with renewed intensity and you may notice your body begins to change once again.
Do Not Give Up
While you may need to take a break from exercise in order to get past the plateau, you definitely do not need to quit. Giving up is the worst thing that you can do. It sets you back and keeps you from making further progress. In order to get past the plateau, you have to keep working. Work through this tough phase, and chances are good that your fitness level will be better than ever once you make it to the other side.
Make a Minor Change
If you hit a true plateau, it might be necessary to make some small changes to your regular routine. Doing the same old thing may not be working anymore. Try cutting a bit more sugar from your diet. Try adding a little bit more weight to your workout. Making some small changes to what you normally do may help you break through this temporary stall without losing all of your focus and motivation.
The fitness plateau is definitely one of the toughest parts about a fitness journey. It's definitely going to happen, and it's going to be frustrating. But it's what we do with the plateau that determines our ultimate success. Use these tips to get you through and onto the other side, and you may notice that your fitness journey is getting you further than you ever imagined.
