Skip the Fall Sickness by Taking Preventive Measures
By Brandi Swieter
During the months of October and November, in particular, fall sickness starts to sweep the nation. Many people find themselves feeling ill with either the flu or common cold. With a few preventative measures, these types of illnesses may get skipped over this autumn. Keeping the body as healthy as possible is the best way to ensure this happens.
Get Vaccines Updated
It is important to stay up to date on vaccines, particularly those that can help combat cold and flu symptoms. The flu vaccine is one option that people can get each year, yet many fail to do so. Everyone should speak with their doctor about the best time to get the vaccine and what symptoms may occur because of it. It is a good option for those who want to keep themselves as resilient as possible against possible strands.
Wash Hands Often
Everyone knows they should wash their hands, yet many people fail to do it as often as they should. People shouldn’t only wash their hands when they use the restroom. It is also wise to do it anytime any item gets touched that someone else touched first. Before cooking dinner or eating food, hands should also get washed. It’s a simple preventative measure that helps stop the spread of germs. After all, just because one person washed their hands doesn’t mean another person did. You can never be too careful.
Avoid Sick People
People who are already sick should avoid coming into contact with others. Since not everyone follows this common courtesy, it is best if people do their best to avoid someone who is known to be sick. If someone is sneezing or coughing frequently, stay away from them until their symptoms subside.
Wear a Face Mask in Public
Avoiding people who are sick is not always possible, especially for children who have to go to school and adults who have to work. Another option is to use a face mask when in public so harmful germs do not get breathed in throughout the day. Anyone who is sick should also follow common courtesy and use one of these masks so they do not allow their germs to spread.
Get Plenty of Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps the body fight off infections and keep colds at bay. Be sure to get plenty of it to keep the body as healthy and prepared as possible. Vitamin C supplements are available in stores, or people can consume lots of oranges and orange juice to get their fix.
Avoiding sickness isn’t always possible, but there are preventative measures that can help. Try out a few or all of them to stay as healthy as possible this fall season.
