Mango Month Encourages Munching
By Brandi Goodman
Mangoes are a delicious fruit with lots of benefits. During Mango Month in June, take advantage of the celebration by munching on as many mangoes as you desire in as many ways possible. There's lots of recipes that utilize the fruit to add a sweet and juicy flavor to the mix.
Health Benefits of Mangoes
Lots of health benefits are possible through mangoes. A boost in the immune system is just the first in a long line of them. You'll improve your Vitamin A intake when you eat a full cup of the fruit. If you want to improve the look of your skin, mangoes are good for that as well. The Vitamin C provided boosts collagen production that can keep the skin smooth and supple.
Fiber is important to have in the diet if you want your digestive tract running smoothly. One mango can provide up to 5 grams of fiber. This makes mangoes a great source. You'll also experience improved eyesight when you're consuming lots of the fruit. Lutein and zeaxanthin are two antioxidants found in mangoes. You may experience an increase in your visual range and less discomfort due to glare.
Unique Mango Recipes
Eating mango plain is a great option but it isn't the only one. There are plenty of recipes that include the fruit. Give some a try and see which ones become your new favorites. Mango salsa is one such option that I personally enjoy. Diced mangoes, red peppers, onions, and cilantro combined with lime juice and salt makes a sweet dip for tortilla chips. Make homemade chips for an even healthier way to enjoy.
Crab salad with mango dressing is another unique option. You can spread it over toast or eat with avocado for a quick lunch. Crab meat, mango, lime juice, cilantro, extra virgin olive oil, and purple onion make up this recipe. Mango pudding is a good dessert option. You start by mixing grape juice and gelatin before heating more grape juice and adding it to the bowel. You'll blend together mango and sugar before adding in sour cream, milk, lime juice, and rum. The juice and gelatin mixture will then be added. Chill the concoction for a few hours until it's firm.
Don't stop eating mangoes once the month is through. With numerous recipes available and the many health benefits possible, mangoes are a fruit you should add to your regular menu.
