Spine Solutions to Free You From Aches
By Brandi Goodman
Your spine needs to be considered in everything you do. It's what's holding you up and keeping your body stable, after all. Fail to care for your spinal health appropriately and you can find yourself lacking a full range of motion and experiencing daily aches. Keep these spine solutions in mind to help.
Stretch Your Spine Often
You need to stretch often if you have any hope of keeping your spine flexible and free from aches. Stiffness sets in quickly whether you're sitting too long or standing too long. Raise your arms in the air and stand on your tiptoes before reaching down to touch your feet. You can also clasp your hands behind your back and tilt your head back slowly for a good way to give your spine a stretch.
Sleep on Your Side
Stomach sleepers are much more likely to wake with pain. When you're on your stomach, your spine is not aligned properly. Sleep on your side to keep your spine straight, using a pillow between your knees for added support. It's also wise that you stay up to date on mattress and pillow changes. You need a new pillow every year and a new mattress every eight.
Strengthen Your Back
Keeping your back strong in general is a good way to help your spinal health. You should be performing back exercises that keep your spine strong and stable. A bent-over row is a good option. Bend at the waist and lift weights. Let them hang near your knees and bring them up toward your chest. This will target your upper back in particular. Pull-ups also work wonders for your back muscles.
Use Proper Posture
One of the best things you can do for your spine is to use proper posture at all times. No matter if you're sitting or standing, you need to keep your back upright and your head held high. You shouldn't be slouching to the side, hunching over, or keeping your neck tilted down. This will pull on your spine and put it out of alignment. Always maintain your posture so you can keep your balance and avoid an aching spinal column.
Your spinal health is one of the more important things to consider. Do what you can to keep your spine happy and healthy so your body remains flexible and stable. The aches can set in quickly and leave your back stiff and sore. Keeping these tips in mind is best if you want to prevent such a thing.
