Flip Your Environment for Better Health
By Tom Herrin
Whether people realize it or not, their surroundings can be a major factor in their quality of health. While diet and exercise can each play a big part in managing health, there are a few other things that can be important as well. One of those easy things may be to do a little camping. Most people likely did some as a child, but they probably saw it a simply fun activity and paid no real attention to the fact that it may have benefits. As adults, they may feel that camping takes too much time or that they have moved beyond it, but it may serve some useful purposes for improving health.
It May Pick Us Up When We Are Down
A lot of people have difficulty with their moods once the temps begin to cool and the days grow shorter. Many get down and stay that way for months. For some, it doesn't change until the weather turns around again. The problem with that is that it may be the next spring before it happens. People can actually have an effect on that if they wish. Getting out and camping can pose new challenges that many people will respond to by lifting their spirits. When they make the effort to get out there, regardless of the temps or light, they may find themselves much less depressed in the condition often called seasonal affective disorder, or SAD.
It May Help Improve Memory
Memory is something that many people take for granted, so when memory loss occurs, it can be pretty frustrating. They feel that it is one of those things that comes with age. It doesn't always have to be that way. According to a study by the University of Michigan, there is something about natural settings that may help to improve memory. They found that people who took a walk through a natural setting had a 20 percent improvement in their memory as opposed to those who took a walk through a setting of city sights.
It May Help Provide New Experiences
Most of us get into ruts in our routines and don't change much. We could all improve our outlooks with a little camping. The outdoors may be just the ticket to help get us more motivated, improve our relationships, and boost our health. Our family loves camping, and enjoys the challenges that come with it. Try it for yourself and see the difference it may make in your life.
