Why 'Water First' Should Be Your Motto
By Genevieve Cunningham
Water. We know that we are supposed to fuel our bodies with plenty of water. But to be perfectly honest, most people would rather drink sweet tea, coffee, juice, and soda. It's not always bad to treat yourself to a flavored drink, but avoiding water can cause major issues to your health. If you want to be as healthy as possible, then your motto should always be "water first." If you're having a hard time making the switch to good old H2O, take a look at these reasons to choose water above all else.
Thirst Happens Before Hunger
If you think you're hungry, especially in between meals, it might be best to grab a glass of water first. Sometimes we mistake thirst pains for hunger. We reach for a snack to satisfy this pain, when actually all we really need is a big glass of water. Making the choice to try water first means fewer calories, a more hydrated body, and possibly fewer cravings throughout the day for a healthier body overall.
Dehydration Causes Negative Side Effects
If we don't get enough water, we will inevitably suffer from dehydration. When we hear the word dehydration, we think of being incredibly ill. But dehydration doesn't always look this way. Sometimes when we don't get enough water, we may simply experience headaches, an increase in illness, dry skin, and other negative effects such as these. If you don't want to experience these kinds of effects, it's important to drink water all day long every day to keep the body hydrated and ward off any potential dehydration in the future.
Water Helps Some People Lose Weight
One of the best benefits of drinking more water is that it helps some people lose weight. Water makes the stomach feel full. When the stomach feels full, we eat fewer calories. Water can also help to flush the digestive system, which is another battle in the quest for weight loss. If you're looking to lose weight, no matter how many pounds are in your ultimate goal, drink more water and you'll likely reach your goal much faster.
If it's at all possible, make sure that you choose water before you choose anything else. Choose water before food. Choose water before a flavored drink. Just choose water. Keep yourself hydrated, healthy, and happy with an increase in your water intake and a serious boost in health.
