3 Things to Say Yes to This Year

By Genevieve Cunningham

As a general rule, people spend a lot of time saying no. The problem is that we're usually saying no to the good stuff. We say no to the fun stuff. When our boss asks us to take on more work, we say yes without hesitation. When a friend asks us to go to a new place, we come up with a million reasons why we just can't make it happen. But maybe this is completely backward. Maybe it's time to say no to more work and yes to the good parts of life. If you're interested in making this year the year of better living, take a look at these things to say yes to at your next opportunity.

Say Yes to Self-Care

It's time. You've been avoiding self-care for too long. You've been making excuses about time or other people or money. But it's time to put yourself first even once in a while. Get a massage. Get a facial. Join a gym. If you don't take care of yourself, who will? Make this the year that you focus on a little self-care.

Say Yes to a New Experience

When was the last time you learned something new? This year, say yes to a brand new experience. Say yes to learning a language or an instrument. Say yes to pottery or painting or a concert. Experiences make us who we are. If you want to continue to develop as a person, you have to keep learning. And saying yes to experiences also allows us to continue having fun no matter the age.

Say Yes to a New Place

Maybe you get the opportunity to travel for work. Maybe a friend asks you to go on a trip with them. Maybe you get the chance for a solo trip to a place you've never been. It doesn't matter. The important thing is that at least once this year, you say yes! Say yes to seeing something you've never seen before. Say yes to seeing a new part of the world, even if it's only a few towns over. Seeing new places helps us create new perspectives that help us grow as people.

Make this the year that you actually live. Don't know how to do that? Start by saying yes more often. Say yes to the fun and the growth and the relationships. With a little more yes to the good stuff and no to the stress and worry, you'll be living a life you love on no time at all.
