Find the Fitness Everywhere You Go
By Brandi Goodman
Exercise is an important part of staying healthy. Too many people say they don't have the time to exercise and therefore don't get nearly as much of it as they should. You need to find the fitness everywhere you go so you're working your body out like you need and keeping your joints and muscles flexible.
Always Participate
When you attend a festival, take your kids to the park, or go anywhere else, always participate. Join in on the physical activity happening so you can get in the exercise you need. Don't just sit and watch. It will do no good for your body.
Volunteer
Volunteer opportunities are plentiful. Try a few and you'll soon see that it's better for your body than you might have thought. Cleaning up a local park or walking dogs for elderly neighbors are both great options that will have you burning calories.
Search for Uneven Surfaces
When you're out and about, search for uneven surfaces. Rather than avoiding slopes and hills, use them to add some exercise to your day. Walking up a hill is much more difficult than walking a smooth path. You'll get a better workout for your legs and burn more calories due to the resistance.
Use Nature as Your Gym
Just as you can use a slope to get some exercise, you can also use other aspects of nature as your gym. Say there's a large rock nearby. Step onto it. Jump off it. Do some lunges from it. Play hopscotch on some fallen leaves. Run a lap around a section of sand. There's lots of ways to use what's around you in your workout.
Take the Stairs
Skip the elevators and escalators anywhere you go and take the stairs instead. You'll be getting more exercise this way since you'll need to walk up every step rather than remaining in place and being transported. Your legs will thank you eventually. You can even use the stairs for a full workout by climbing up and back down or running up them skipping steps as you go.
Finding the fitness is possible everywhere you go. You just have to recognize that nearly every activity can be turned into a physical one if you make it so. Exercise is key for optimal health. Get more of it anyway you can.
