Fun Indoor Activities That Can Help You Get Fit
By Genevieve Cunningham
A workout outside can be fun and challenging. But if you do this all of the time, it can also get boring. What happens when it’s too hot or it’s raining? What happens when you just don’t want to do the same old workout? It’s these times that a good indoor workout can recharge your motivation and refocus your exercise routine. But where do you start and what can you do? It’s easy! Take a look at these three great indoor workouts that you can add to your routine for a little fun and a little change of pace.
Rock Climbing
If you live in the right area, there may be multiple rock climbing walls at the local gyms. These walls range from beginner to difficult, and each wall may have slightly different rules. Either way, they’re a ton of fun to climb. If you haven’t done it before, there should be someone available to help you get started. So throw on some good sneakers, find a wall, and get to climbing for a fun and effective workout.
Racquetball
If you’ve never played this sport, you are missing out! Think of racquetball a bit like tennis but without the net. You hit a ball -- blue and rubbery in appearance -- into a wall. Whoever you’re playing with hits it next, and on and on you go. The rules can easily be found through a quick internet search, or you and your friend can just play for fun. This is a great workout because the ball is allowed to bounce off of any wall in the room. This means that the ball is moving so fast, and you have to move just as quickly to play. Find a gym with this setup, and enjoy the fun and the workout that comes from this game.
Basketball
An old favorite, basketball, is a great way to work out while having fun at the same time. You can either play all by yourself (shooting hoops and what not), or you can ask a friend or a few to play a game. Basketball requires quick movements, running, and will get your blood really pumping. All you need is a gym, a ball, and some shoes, and this exercise is ready to happen.
When you’re ready to take your exercise routine indoors, you can do it without taking all the fun out of the workout. Use these exercises as a jumping off point. With some willingness to try something new and the right facility, you might find a brand new aspect that can become a part of your normal routine.
