3 Ways Stress is Ruining Your Holiday Season

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress. It's something that we have to deal with in life. There's no escaping it. There's no running from it. It's just a part of our everyday world. But there are certain times of the year that are much more stressful than others. And the holiday season is definitely one of them. If you're starting to feel a little stressed this season, take a look at these three ways in which stress is ruining your holiday season followed by some tips to get it under control.

It’s Causing Insomnia

Stress can definitely make it difficult to sleep. Most people are no stranger to insomnia, but the stress of the holidays tend to exacerbate it. If you're finding it difficult to sleep, try some sleepy time tea, going to bed a little bit earlier, exercising early in the day, or settling into a nice long wind-down routine at the end of the day. All of these may be able to help you relax, relieve some stress, and finally get a little rest.

It’s Causing Pain

We don't typically think about stress causing pain, but it absolutely can. Stress can cause anything from headaches to back pain to neck stiffness to overall body aches. If you're starting to feel a little bit of pain due to stress, make sure you're getting plenty of rest time. It can also help to get in plenty of stretching, a little bit of exercise, and to work out any stiffness in the body at the beginning and end of the day.

It’s Weakening Your Immune System

Stress can play a big factor in the way that your immune system functions. When you're dealing with massive amounts of stress, the immune system can take a hit. You may suddenly find that you're catching cold after cold or that you're just not feeling as well as you should be. If you believe that your immune system is starting to suffer, make sure you're getting plenty of Vitamin C, eating a nice nutritious diet, and getting enough rest to allow your body to recuperate. Chiropractic can also help because the immune system is tied into the central nervous system.

Stress is a part of life and it's also a part of the holidays. At this time of year, we tend to feel more stress than ever. And the biggest problem is that there is little chance to relieve it. Use a few of these tips to strengthen your body and keep yourself healthy through the holiday season and long after.
