3 Signs Your Body is Still Recovering from Exercise

By Genevieve Cunningham

Exercise is a must in life. We really need it to strengthen our bodies, improve mobility, stay active, and lead a happy and healthy life. But in the beginning, exercise can feel incredibly difficult. This is especially true whenever we experience pain and soreness. The key to sticking with it is allowing your body to recover. But how do you know when it’s safe to hit the gym again? To avoid the trap of overdoing it, take a look at these signs that your body needs a little more time to recover.

Your Body is in Pain

Soreness is one thing. It’s normal to feel sore after a good workout. But pain is something else entirely. If the body is in actual pain -- the kind that makes it difficult to go through the normal tasks of everyday life -- it’s probably a good sign that your body needs a little more recovery time. Give yourself a few more days to recuperate. If the pain still doesn’t subside, consider seeing a professional for adequate care.

Your Body is Overly Exhausted

It’s completely OK to be tired after exercise. In fact, you should be tired! It’s even OK to be tired the next day. But excessive exhaustion might mean you took it too far. You may need to skip a workout or two to let your body gain its energy back. Once you feel a bit back to normal, you can resume your normal workout without restraint.

You’re Shaky or Weak

Immediately after a workout, you may feel a bit shaky. It’s a good sign that your muscles have really been worked hard. But the next day? Or the day after? You might be sore, but you shouldn’t be shaky. If you are, give the workout a rest and reassess your diet. Make sure that you’re getting enough nutrients and calories, and then resume your routine once the shakiness and weakness are gone.

Exercise is definitely important. It leads to a healthier and happier life. You should partake in some sort of movement on a daily basis. But if your workout is causing any of these problems, don’t be afraid to slack off and give your body a rest. With the right personal care, you can protect your body and boost your health all at the same time.
