3 Ways to Promote a Better Memory

By Genevieve Cunningham

A good memory is a really good asset to have at your disposal. It seems as though some people come with a good memory already in place. It doesn't matter what's going on in their lives, they remember everything! Are they blessed, or do they know something the rest of us don't? While some people certainly have an easier time remembering things, there are things that we can all do to enhance our memory and keep it sharp. If you would like to improve this area of your health and life, take a look at these tips to get you started today.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Like anything else in life, keeping a good memory takes practice. If you never use this skill, you'll lose it. So how do you practice with the mind? It's easy! Make sure that you engage in brain games and activities. Put together puzzles. Read -- a lot. Play memory games with your kids or on the computer. The more you use the brain, the healthier it stays, and the easier it is for your memory to stay sharp.

Eat for a Healthy Brain

Our diet affects everything, and this definitely includes the brain. If you want the brain to be healthy, you have to eat the right foods. Make sure you're getting plenty of fruits and vegetables. It's also incredibly helpful to eat fish -- tuna, mackerel, salmon, mahi mahi. For snacks, reach for walnuts. And of course, drink lots and lots of water. You are what you eat, so eat a healthy diet to keep a healthy brain.

Get More Sleep

The brain simply cannot function its best without adequate sleep. If you're not getting good sleep, it's time to start. Follow a bedtime. Change mattresses and pillows. Make your room dark and comfortable. Do whatever it takes! The more sleep you get, the better rested your brain and body will be, and the easier it will be to stay healthy and strong in both physical and mental well-being.

Things are just a little easier when your brain and memory are top-notch. Luckily, with a few targeted exercises, you can enhance your memory and keep it working well. Use these tips to get started, and you may find your memory working better than ever before.
