How Exercise Can Help You Love Your Life

By Genevieve Cunningham

If you're looking for a way to improve your health, exercise is one of the first pieces of advice you may come across. Nothing beats regular movement in your life. It's good for your muscles, your mind, your weight. It's good for your self-esteem and your longevity. It's incredibly beneficial. But what surprises many is that it's not just good for your health, it's good for your entire quality of life. If you've been slacking on your exercise routine, take a look at these ways in which picking up and keeping a routine can help you love your life just a little bit more.

It Makes Activity Easier

Life is better when we're active. And it's not just exercise that makes life better -- it's any activity. It's community fairs and parties at work and get-togethers with friends. But if we're in pain or stiff or really out of shape, all of these activities are harder. When we exercise regularly, we improve our stamina, and going out and having fun is just easier. And if it's easier, we'll do it more. And if we do it more, we open ourselves up to more friends and more fun. If you want this benefit, all you have to do is get moving.

It Helps Your Mood on a Basic Level

Exercise is good for the body -- there's certainly no doubt about that. But exercise also sets off a chain reaction in the brain. Movement stimulates a chemical in the brain that enhances happiness. And this means that regular exercise can significantly boost our mood. If you've found yourself stuck in a rut with your mood or attitude, adding exercise to your life may be all it takes to get it completely turned around.

It Makes You Feel Good

Exercise makes you feel really good. Along with the happy chemicals that it helps produce, it also makes you feel better about yourself. It can help you grow muscles and burn fat. And as your body changes for the better, you'll notice. And you'll start to feel better about it. Along with better self-esteem, it also enhances your body's function. If your body starts to work better, you'll feel better. Exercise, though perhaps a little painful at first, sets off a wonderful chain of events that ends with better health and feeling overall better in your own skin. What could be better?

If you're not currently exercising on a regular basis, it's time to start. It's time to walk or jog or swim -- or do whatever sounds good! Just get moving! As you make exercise a part of your life, you may notice these great benefits and feel better about your life moving forward.
