Walk, Run, or Jog for Your Health
By Brandi Swieter
Staying active is one of the best things a person can do for their body. Inactivity can lead to muscle fatigue and atrophy if people do not get up and move at all. A quick walk to the kitchen or the bathroom won’t suffice. People need to remain active by doing physical activity, such as walking, running, or jogging, to keep their health in check.
Walking
High blood pressure can be reduced simply by walking. Physical activity lowers blood pressure and keeps it from spiking. Walking also helps people manage other conditions, such as heart disease. Getting the blood pumping and flowing through the heart and body is highly beneficial. The activity strengthens the muscles as well as the bones and also helps to improve mood. Though some people choose to take long walks on trails or simply walk a treadmill, a walk around the neighborhood can suffice.
Running
Running is great for improving mental health. Runners receive what’s known as a runner’s high because they feel euphoric after a run. Their minds are clear and bodies are energized. This is especially true for those who run outdoors rather than remaining inside. An outdoor run allows a person to feel the air on their face as they move, bringing a sense of calm.
Because all of a person’s weight is felt during a run, the bones take a lot of impact. Running and handling all of this weight makes a huge impact, making the bones stronger than before. This aerobic exercise burns quite a few calories, especially when the person is giving it all their all.
Jogging
Jogging aims to improve cardiovascular health. Many people prefer to lightly jog instead of run because it’s a bit easier on the body. They get a faster pace than a walk, but don’t have to go as hard as with a run. Individuals looking to improve their strength and endurance should try going out for a jog a few times a week. It’s OK to start out slow and work your way up to a longer interval.
Walking, running, and jogging are all excellent options for staying fit. These activities may burn a lot of calories and keep people active, but they also have a big impact on the joints. Anyone experiencing some discomfort after these activities should visit The Joint Chiropractic to discover a possible solution.
