3 Great Exercises That Help Build Stamina
By Genevieve Cunningham
When most people exercise, they're looking to do one of two things: lose weight or build strength. While both of these are worthy goals, there may be another extremely important reason to get active. Stamina. Building stamina can improve multiple areas of life. Everything becomes just a little bit easier, and making it through the day without suffering excessive exhaustion is more likely. But what kind of exercises are conducive for producing these kinds of results? To build a little endurance, take a look at these exercises to give a try today.
Running or Jogging
Let’s not forget the old classics. Running or jogging is one of the fastest and most effective ways to build endurance. It requires your lungs to hold more air, your body to pump blood faster, and helps you burn calories and build strength. Buy some shoes, find a trail, make a playlist, and start running today. By next week, you may notice that you can already last a little longer and breathe a little easier after your jog.
Boxing
Boxing is so hard. It’s not necessarily the punching that takes all of your energy (though this is definitely energy draining), but rather the constant movement of the feet. The boxer shuffle, or the slight jumping from foot to foot that happens throughout an entire boxing match, takes massive amounts of endurance. If you find a gym that offers boxing, you will likely be dripping sweat after just one session. But over time, you’ll notice your stamina build and muscles grow in strength, and you’ll be able to go for longer bursts of time without giving up.
Swimming
Swimming is an excellent exercise. It’s easy on the joints, feels good as you do it, and definitely requires you to expand lung function. Find a nearby pool, buy a suit, and go for a dip. At first, it’ll be tough, especially if you haven’t swam laps in a while. But over time, your body will adjust, and you’ll be lapping everyone in the pool.
Stamina is important. We can’t get through life without it. When your stamina is low, even walking up the stairs is tough! Build more stamina by participating in these workouts. Over time, you’ll develop the endurance you need to live an active and productive life from here on out.
