Feeling Blue? Three Ways to Turn It Around!

By Genevieve Cunningham

Feeling blue from time to time is a part of life. Moods are like the wind. They come and go, change often, and affect the people around us. A bad mood isn't necessarily something to worry about. But what happens when that feeling of the blues just won't go away? While it's important to seek professional help when you need it, there may be some things that you can do to beat the blues in the comfort of your own home. If you need a pick-me-up, take a look at these ways to beat the blues and feel better than ever.

Spend Time Outdoors

Nothing beats getting outdoors. When we go outside, we breathe fresh air and soak in some much needed sunlight. Those who regularly spend time in nature often feel happier, healthier, and more satisfied in life. Luckily, the spring is the perfect time to get outside. Go on a picnic, go for a hike, ride a bike, or simply lay out. Just make sure that you’re getting plenty of time outside, and the blues are more likely to subside.

Go Learn Something New

Sometimes the best course of action is to engage the brain. If you're feeling down, go learn something new. Learn a new hobby, a new language, or go create something new. Challenging your brain is an excellent way to feel accomplished and productive in life, two things that can help beat the blues for good.

Get Your Diet in Check

Your diet affects everything. If you put junk into your body, you're more likely to feel like junk. If you're feeling down, take a better look at your food consumption. Are you eating fast food and sugar and fatty foods? If you are, change your diet to include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and plenty of lean meats. The better fuel you provide your body, the better you're going to feel -- both physically and mentally.

Though feeling blue can certainly be normal, especially if it only happens on occasion, it's not something you have to live with or ignore. Use these tips to turn your mood around at anytime. With a little self-care, you can feel happier and more satisfied with life on a daily basis for better health for the rest of your life.
