New Baby? Tips for Losing the Weight Like a Pro
By Genevieve Cunningham
Brand new babies are awesome. You spend a long nine months growing that precious little person, and when they come home you can't wait to pinch their cheeks and hold them close. But there is a downside to bringing home a new baby. And one of the biggest downsides is the inevitable weight gain. After baby arrives, you're ready to feel like yourself again, but this is incredibly difficult when you have lingering weight. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to help you slim down once baby comes home from the hospital. If you're ready to feel like your old self again, take a look at these tips for losing that baby weight like a pro.
Be Patient
Though you can absolutely lose the weight, it's important to remember that you are not a person with unlimited means. We often see actresses and models who slim down in a matter of weeks post baby. Keep in mind this is not at all realistic. Be patient with yourself. It's going to take some time to lose that weight, and that's completely OK. Give yourself some time, and allow your body to change on its own. With some consistent effort and patience, you'll be feeling like yourself again in no time at all.
Watch What You Eat
You may or may not have watched your diet throughout your pregnancy, but now is the time to keep a close eye on what you're eating. If you want to lose weight, you probably have to cut your calories. This can be tricky post-baby, as the baby still demands a certain amount of calories to thrive. But go ahead and clean up your menu a bit. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and stick to lean meats when possible. If you watch your diet and count your calories, the weight should come off in a slow and steady manner.
Get More Sleep
You have to get enough sleep if you really want to lose weight. Of course, this can seem like an impossibility whenever you have a new baby at home. So what can you do? Get sleep whenever you can get it. If the baby's taking a nap, skip the dishes and take a nap too. Call in a babysitter, Grandma, or ask Dad for a little bit of help. If you're not getting enough sleep, your body simply won't work with you. Get more rest, and you'll feel better as a whole, and the weight will begin to come off, too.
Kids are awesome. They're a ton of fun and definitely lovable. But the process of gaining weight, bringing home baby, and then losing weight again is incredibly difficult. Luckily, it can be done if you are determined to make it happen. Use these tips, and watch your body transform into something you can feel good about in no time.
