4 Family Friendly Must-Dos
By Virginia Laird
Do you suddenly have the urge to plan an outdoor family adventure? You are not alone. Many experience a rush of excitement and adventurous feelings as falls arrives. It seems as though every family is searching for the right outdoor adventure to plan. Like others, my family has a few fall rituals we must to each year, but there is always room to add another adventure to the joy of family time. A little outdoor activity (still counts as exercise) will do the family good. A few must-dos for the family include:
- Teach your kids to bake an apple pie
- Find a local hayride or corn maze
- Visit the pumpkin patch
- Take a hike
Teach Your Kids to Bake an Apple Pie
Rather than running to the local supermarket and grabbing a frozen pie, fall is a great time to teach your kids the art of baking, and apple pie is a great dish to start with. If you are seriously adventurous, you may consider finding a local apple orchard and pick your apples fresh from the tree. If your home is anything like mine, treats can change the mood to happy and exciting at the blink of an eye. Not only will all the people in your home be happy with the delicious dessert, but it will fill your home with the aroma of fall.
Find a Local Hayride or Corn Maze
Hayrides and corn mazes are all the craze during fall. These can be found in almost any community and offer fun for the family. Consider dividing the family into teams and racing through the corn maze. Maybe the losing team makes dinner, or gets the biggest slice of that fresh baked apple pie.
Visit the Pumpkin Patch
Taking the family to the local pumpkin patch is a must-do during fall. Most are set up to allow for great fall family photos and some have games. The pumpkin patch is a great place to select the pumpkins you will need to carve and decorate the house.
Take a Hike
Getting out in the crisp cool air can be invigorating. Fresh air is also great for the immune system. Many of your family's favorite hiking locations are most likely starting to experience the beautiful changes of fall. Soon, the colors will blanket the terrain while the crunching of leaves plays music to the ears.
No matter which activity you choose for your next family outdoor adventure, there is sure to be a smile on everyone’s face. Now get out there and start making some memories!
