3 Healthy Choices for 2018

By Virginia Laird

With a new year on the horizon, it is time to begin considering a few resolutions. Most people will choose at least one which is health related. Personal trainers admit they see an influx in clients during the month of January. Gyms across the nation begin to bust at the seams due to those setting workout-related goals. However, much of this excitement will not last. According to research, many will fizzle on their goals by March. Health and wellness professionals have offered a few tips to include in your New Year’s resolution to ensure you are not one who falls off the bandwagon too soon. Some of these tips include:

  • Plan meals ahead
  • Make time to walk daily
  • Drink more water

Plan Meals Ahead

Waiting until it is time to eat may have you leaning toward what is convenient rather than what is healthiest. It is wise to have a meal plan and use it. Some plan meals on a monthly basis, but for me this does not work. I prefer to plan the meals for my family every two weeks. There is no wrong way to plan, just as long as you do it. Not only does planning ahead help you eat healthier, it can save you money. Eating out because you are hungry now and want food ASAP can be costly.

Make Time to Walk Daily

Exercise is a sure way to improve your health and wellness. For those who are not ready to commit to heavy workouts, walking can be just as good to get you started. Furthermore, if you don’t really enjoy exercising it may be wise to find a workout buddy or two. Research suggests that working out with a buddy can help keep you motivated and focused. No matter what path you decide to take, be sure you make time to exercise.

Drink More Water

There is always room to improve your consumption of water. Drinking enough water to stay properly hydrated is important for the functions of the body to work. It is recommended that you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water daily. Drinking enough water can also help prevent overeating, keeps the skin looking young, and promotes energy.

Now you are ready to be successful and achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Good luck and may 2018 prove to be your best year ever.
