5 Simple Ways to Improve Your Diet

By Genevieve Cunningham

One of the hardest parts about improving health is changing your diet. We get so comfortable with our current menu, making changes seems like the last thing we want to do. But if you are looking to lose weight and boost overall wellness, chances are good that changes really need to be made. If you're having trouble getting your diet moving in the right direction, take a look at these five simple tips to get you going.

Drink More Water

You already know that you should do it, but you probably skip it. If you want to be healthy, you really have to drink more water. While you can still have your coffee or morning pick me up, you'll probably want to choose water from there on out. Take a water bottle, sip all day, and make sure that your diet is full of good old H2O.

Skip Dessert

If you're looking for an incredibly easy change that you can make to your diet, just start skipping dessert. This will only be difficult the first few times that you do it. Once you get used to having dinner without dessert, it'll be a cinch. Skipping dessert saves hundreds of calories, tons of sugar, and keeps your diet on a much healthier track. Indulge every once in awhile, but for the most part just say no to the after-dinner sweets.

Eat Veggies

Anytime that you're given the opportunity, you should definitely choose vegetables. Vegetables are some of the healthiest foods that we can put into our mouths. Whether it's a side dish or a snack, vegetables are almost always the better choice. Get used to eating plenty of veggies, and your diet will be moving in the right direction in no time at all.

Say No to Seconds

Chances are good that you really don't need a second helping. Many times, our eyes are simply bigger than our stomachs, or perhaps we really like the flavor of a particular food. If you would like to cut your calories and have a healthier diet, just say no to seconds. Don't offend the host, but politely decline so that you can keep your health moving in the right direction.

Eat at Home

One of the easiest ways to improve your diet is to simply eat at home. Any time that we're eating out, we're almost always eating more calories and more junk. If you can eat at home, you're almost sure to be eating a healthier menu. This might take some work or some planning depending on your lifestyle, but the overall results will be well worth the effort that you put forth.

Improving your diet is difficult, but it's definitely possible. You'll need a little willpower and some consistency, but if you’re willing to put in a little work, you can make it happen. Use these tips to get started, and enjoy better health before you know it.
