When you come in, your chiropractor will assess your pain and explain how improved spinal health can lead the way forward. A gentle targeted spinal adjustment may deliver far-reaching pain relief, and an overall sense of well-being with more energy, less stress and better sleep.
As you consider your benefits you may want to use weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments to ease pain. At the same time, you may want to consider these steps from Harvard Health.
Keep moving with gentle exercises - Let your chiropractor structure simple fitness routines and take short walks daily to keep your body limber. Don't overdo it, but make a point of moving a little bit every day.
Use ice or heat when pain strikes - If your lower back pain is new, cold packs or bags of frozen peas can help reduce blood flow and swelling. After a day or two you can switch to 20 minutes with a heating pad, which loosens tight muscles and improves circulation.
Consider a new mattress and pillows - If your mattress is sagging or feeling lumpy, replace it with firm to medium firm support in a new mattress. Add pillows that allow the head to sink into the pillow to maintain a straight line from the head to the neck to the rest of the body.
Check your shoes - If you are wearing heels at work, wear sneakers going to and from work, and at home and on the weekends. Also evaluate all of your shoes to make sure there is good support and a good fit.
Keep stretching your spine - If you sit all day, keep your spine limber with 10 minutes of stretches in the morning and 10 in the afternoon. Add a walk after lunch and use yoga poses at home in the evening. Create a climate of gentle movement for your back and enjoy the difference as you make your way from pain and stiffness to relaxed mobility.
