Reduce Back Pain With Stretching and Chiropractic
By Paul Rothbart
There are many people who suffer from back pain. It's not always constant and sometimes not severe, but any kind of pain can be debilitating. Sometimes the simple act of bending over to pick a sock can feel like a major effort that requires intense concentration to overcome the unpleasantness. Higher levels of pain can make anything impossible. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce back pain and get your mobility back. Two of the best things you can do are regular stretching and seeing a chiropractor.
The Knee-to-Chest Stretch
One of the best stretches for lengthening lower back muscles that are tight is the knee-to-chest stretch. Lie on your back and bend your knees, keeping your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands on the back of your knees and use them to slowly pull your knees up to your chest. While holding this position, massage your back by rocking your hips up and down and side to side. Hold the position for 20-30 seconds, then slowly lower your feet back to the floor.
The Child's Pose
The child's pose is a common yoga position that is great for stretching the muscles of the lower back. Begin by getting down on your hands and knees. Keep your knees right below your hips and your hands under your shoulders. With your hands remaining on the floor, slowly slide your arms out in front of you while lowering your chest to the floor. Simultaneously, lower your hips so that you are sitting on your feet. Hold for 30 seconds or longer if you can. This can be a tricky stretch, so start slowly and gradually extend it.
The Pelvic Tilt
The pelvic tilt stretches the lower back while also loosening up the entire pelvic area and restoring full range of motion. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Keeping your back relaxed, use your abdominal muscles to slowly tilt your pelvis upward. Gently lower it back to the floor and repeat 12-15 times.
See a Chiropractor
Stretching is a great way to loosen tight lower back muscles daily, but regular chiropractic care can be a big help. Chiropractic adjustments can loosen tight muscles as well as fix any subluxations or other problems in the spine. As a result of regular treatments, your stretching sessions may feel easier and thus be more effective. A chiropractor can also adjust your neck and joints, helping you feel better. You may find that your entire body works together better than ever and that can provide extra support for your back.
Back pain is one of the worst feelings there is and it can make the easiest task seem difficult. Stretching daily is a good way to keep those lower back muscles loose. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment and you may find that along with stretching, chiropractic care helps reduce your pain and keeps you active.
