Walking in Place May Not Be Bad

By Tom Herrin

A lot of people feel that if they are going to do something active, they should get outdoors to do so.  Part of this is because they likely prefer being out in the fresh air.  Another part may be due to the fact that they don't feel they are really getting much of a workout if they are not out doors.  While this may seem to be true in part, it really doesn't make much difference as to whether they are indoors or out.  The point is to make a commitment and keep it.  The ability to follow through on any kind of decision may be the most critical part of achieving success.  For those who struggle with time and availability, walking or jogging on a treadmill may be a way to reach that goal.

Treadmills Offer Privacy

Many people prefer to have a workout in a place where they can have their own time.  For those, crowded tracks or gyms can seem annoying.  Working out on a treadmill may be done inside a home or building, which allows better climate control.  Some people use treadmills on a patio or in a garage.  Whichever of these is used can offer seclusion from those other people as well as animals that may tend to make noises or chase.

A Treadmill May Help Keep Joints Flexible

It is too easy to become stiff and sore when people walk on hard surfaces.  Treadmills tend to have better cushion and create less physical stress as people walk or run on them.  Another perk is that people may use them to establish a pace that works for them.  Setting a given programmed pace can help people to avoid some of the slowing down that often happens as they tire.  Using a treadmill may allow them to keep up the speed they desire, and then slow down as they need to,

Treadmills Are Relatively Inexpensive

There was a time when I did not particularly care for treadmills.  After using them a little, I decided to purchase one for myself.  I found that I could get one that is pretty useful for only a couple of hundred dollars or so.  They can have a variety of features, so you may choose what you feel you need.  I now enjoy mine as it gives me an opportunity to get some meaningful activity even when it may be late or rainy.  I find that when I am short on time, I can still do some good things in 30 minutes or less.
