Do You Enjoy Going Without Shoes?

By Tom Herrin

Most of us have some kinds of hang-ups.  We may have something from our childhood or from some event we have had in our lives.  Either way, these things often shape the way we think and see life around us.  One of the things that may vary is whether or not we prefer to wear shoes or go barefoot.  It may seem to be a strange thought, but it can affect our health more than we may realize.  The notion of a woman being barefoot and pregnant was once considered something that represented a certain lifestyle, but today going barefoot may represent much more.

Walking Barefoot May Reduce Stress

We all have a variety of things in our lives that contribute to stress.  One of the things that is physically responsible for bringing it on is cortisol.  This is basically a hormone that tells our body to tense up.  It can cause us to be unable to relax.  Some studies have shown that things such as walking barefoot may lower our production of cortisol.  This may allow us the opportunity to unwind a bit and lessen the damaging effect on our bodies.

Walking Barefoot May Improve Biorhythms

Biorhythms are something that we all have.  It has to do with our own internal biological clock.  In other words, they help to regulate us.  Walking barefoot is believed to support better management of the way we live.  One of the major items that is managed by this internal clock is our sleep.  Any time our circadian rhythms work better, we will be much better rested and more productive.

Barefoot Contact With Earth May Relieve Tension

It is often difficult for any of us to be completely aware of the many things that contribute to tension.  We all know about mental and emotional stress, but there may be a lot more to it than that.  It is thought that earthing can help to literally ground us in that it may help to eliminate or reduce free radicals that may cause illness.  Some of these may be the result of prolonged exposure to the many electronic devices we are in contact with each day.  This earthing may help to remove some of the radiation we encounter.  When you think about it, hasn't there always been some kind of special feeling about taking off your shoes and walking through the grass?
