The Common Causes of Hip Pain

Back pain is quite common, but hip pain is right up there with it. That's because a lot of the same tendons and muscles responsible for lower back pain are also the culprits behind hip pain. Your sciatic nerve runs from your lower back down each leg to the toes. It's the largest nerve in the body and when something goes wrong with it, you feel it! When the sciatic nerve becomes compressed or irritated by pressure placed on it by a tendon or muscle that is inflamed, then the pain can radiate down your legs but also into your hips and thigh. This pain can be anything from numbness and tingling to burning and dull pain to sharp pain. Exercise is good for you, but if you go a little overboard you can irritate the soft tissue and fascia that surrounds your joints and cause inflammation and irritation in the joint. You can avoid this by starting slow when trying out a new exercise and making sure to stretch before your workout to help prevent conditions that can lead to hip pain.

Your mattress can do a lot for your health, but a bad mattress can do just as much damage! If you're not being adequately supported by your mattress at night, then back and hip pain can result. Make sure you have a mattress that isn't too old and also one that supports your body as needed. Utilize pillows to help support your hips and lower back if you need a little extra support throughout the night.
