3 Surprising Signs of Infection in the Body
By Genevieve Cunningham
No one likes to be sick. Unfortunately, illness isn't something that we can avoid. We can try, but inevitably, we're going to get some sort of infection that makes us feel bad. While we can't usually see the infection before it happens, there are signs that our body will give us that alert us to a problem. Our body will communicate with us -- all we have to do is listen. If you'd like to stop your next infection in its tracks, take a look at these three surprising signs that might signal a growing infection in the body.
Fatigue
Even before you have any idea that you might be sick, fatigue can set in. Many attribute their fatigue to something else -- staying up late, stress at work, the demands of children. And while these can certainly contribute, it's important not to discount the possibility that illness is creeping in. If you're feeling fatigued, try to lay low and get some rest. If the fatigue won't pass on its own, pay attention to other signs or ask your doctor for advice.
Feeling Lightheaded
Sickness affects blood pressure. Sometimes it makes it go up and sometimes it makes it drop. If your blood pressure is a bit unstable you may notice it when you stand up. You may notice that you feel slightly dizzy or lightheaded. Standing still for a few seconds usually allows the sensation to pass without incident. If this begins to happen when it hasn't before, or if it becomes a more regular thing in your life, it can be a good idea to see your doctor. They'll be able to pinpoint any illness or other problems that may be causing the feeling.
Armpit Pain
Sounds strange, right? It's not necessarily just armpit pain that might point to an infection; it's glandular pain. And it just so happens that we have quite a few glands in the armpit. This might feel like a slight soreness, or it can become so severe that it's hard to move your arm without discomfort. You may also notice a bump under the skin. When the glands swell, whether it's in the armpit, neck, or elsewhere, it's definitely a sign that your body is fighting something. If it doesn't pass, see your doctor for an evaluation and proper treatment.
Everyone is going to get sick and suffer from various kinds of infections throughout their life. It's absolutely going to happen! But the sooner we identify the problem, the easier it is to treat and get our health back on track. Use these signs to carefully watch for problems in your health, and you can tackle problems quickly and effectively for better health as a whole.
