Tips to Avoid Back and Neck Pain

By Sara Butler

No matter what you do each day, chances are that the way you work has an impact on your spine. From servers at restaurants to those with desk jobs who stare at a computer screen all day, back and neck pain is a real issue for many people.

The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic want to give you a few tips to help you avoid back and neck pain as much as possible. Here are some things you can do to try to stay healthy between visits to the chiropractor for an adjustment.

Take a Break

Whether you're on your feet or sitting behind a desk, one of the most important things you can do to avoid neck and back pain is to take breaks. At least once every hour you should take a few minutes to stop what you've been doing and do a few simple stretches. If you've been sitting, get up and get the blood moving through your body to reduce tension. If you've been standing, sit and do a few easy chair stretches to give your body a break.

Adjust Your Screens

If you work at a computer for most of the day, then try to adjust your screen height if possible. Screens should be at or just a tad below your eye level. If you're at a desk, do what you can to prop your screen up high enough, like setting it on some books. If you work at a laptop, consider getting a separate keyboard and adjusting the height of your screen for more comfort throughout the workday.

Drink Plenty of Water

No matter what you do each day, drinking enough water is vital to your overall health as well as your spinal health. Having enough fluid in your body to lubricate joints so that they move better is essential to helping you stay healthy. If you find yourself drinking a lot of caffeinated beverages throughout the day, then make sure you balance it with a glass of water between each one. Otherwise, you may be dehydrating yourself, and back and neck pain may be soon to follow.

See the Chiropractor

No matter what you do, make sure to see the chiropractor at The Joint for regular chiropractic adjustments. This will help to keep you free of joint dysfunctions that can lead to pain down the road and helps to keep your body flexible and healthy.
